Dupont, Dr. John Alexandre, also known as “Jackie” to peers and close friends.
Passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 in Amherstburg, ON surrounded by his family at 90 years of age. Beloved husband of Renee (nee Bernier) for 65 years. Loving father of Danielle, Marc, the late Gilles, Pierre, Louis (Nathalie Gaudreau), Jose (Terry Whelan), and Paul (Roxana Mavai). Beloved grandfather of Natalie, Marc Alexandre, Katherine, and Charles, and great-grandfather of Emilie. Predeceased by his brother Raymond and wife Thelma (nee Fleury) of St Lazare, MB. Dear brother-in-law of Yvon Bernier (Vignola), Madeleine Mathieu, (late Christian), Armand Bernier (Ange-Aimee), Huguette Bernier, late Jean-Yves Bernier (Jeanne). Special cousin of Luc Fouillard, Jean-Marie Fouillard (Rita) and the late Georges Fouillard. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and dear friends.
Dr. John was a star pupil of the then existing French language public education of the Catholic diocese of St Lazare, MB in a very different time, of Jesuit Colleges in Winnipeg and of the Faculte de Medicine of Universite Laval in Ste Foy, QC, who then went on to a distinguished career as a physician and public healthcare administrator in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec, to additional healthcare duties as a military officer in Ottawa, to diplomatic and healthcare missions on behalf of the Government of Canada overseas extending from Africa to China, to public sector- private fundraising heath care initiatives with the likes of Canadian hockey legend Maurice Richard in the 1980s. An outdoor enthusiast throughout his life; and even in his retirement years John was a regular, active participant in the annual New Year’s Day activities of the Polar Bear Swim Club of Abbotsford, BC.
Donations made in memory of Dr. John A. Dupont to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Cremation has taken place with memorial visitation on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 6-9 pm at Families First 585 Sandwich St. S., Amherstburg, 519-969-5841.
