CORNETT, Hettie May (nee Bannister)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother. Hettie was called home to the Lord peacefully with her family by her side on Feb 10, 2018 at the age of 86. Loving wife of 49 years to Thomas James (Jim, pre-deceased in 2006). Cherished Mother to Tim (Leisa), David (Maria, deceased) and Jane (Nelly). Loving grandmother to Andrea (Tyler), William and Rachel. Dear sister-in-law of Sam and Sharon Cornett, William and Rachel Dewar and many nieces and nephews.
Hettie was born in Sydney (Cape Breton) Nova Scotia, the youngest of 8 children, and moved to Windsor at the age of 21, where she met the love of her life, Jim. Hettie made many life-long friends during her career with the Children’s Aid Society, St. Mary’s Family Learning Centre, and later with Leone Residence.
Hettie was very involved with her church family, beginning with her days at A.Y.P.A. and most recently at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake Anglican Church in Tecumseh, attending Sunday services and activities. She was a woman of strong faith, which carried her through her many health challenges in later years.
Her family meant everything to her, and she loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her smile and laugh were infectious, and she always made everyone around her feel welcome. In later years, her declining health posed some challenges, but she always had a smile on her face and never complained.
She will be missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
